88 Lowell Street, Manchester. NH Institute of Art, Owner. Designed by Dennis Mires, The Architects, and CM’d by Milestone Engineering and Construction, this project not only saved and re-used Manchester’s first high school building, but the new addition provides needed housing for students. The completed building utilized numerous sustainable features including a vegetated roof and rainwater harvesting of storm water runoff. The NH Institute of Art also actively encourages student community involvement and has a Continuing Education program. All together, this mixed-use project has injected new life into this section of the Queen City. Very walkable, it brings people to core of Manchester, and the lighting adds to the buzz of the downtown night life.
