The Town of Wilton (just west of Milford) has been selected for a community design charrette, which will be held there on July 21 and 22.
The Town is seeking assistance to revitalize the downtown center, to (quotes below are from their application)
- “breathe new life into [the] business community” and
- Give the downtown center a “major make-over”
The Town is looking for
- “a street view design of what downtown could look like”
- “A sense of where [they] could build out additional businesses in a very limited space”
- A fuller view of what is downtown
In addition, they would like assistance in determining “good use of existing structures to provide needed services, gathering spaces, and a sense of place.”
Finally: “The hope is this community-engaged experience can expand horizons about the way residents view their town and instill in all … a greater sense of pride in the community.”
A team of planners, architects, landscape architects, economic development professionals and others will gather on Friday morning, July 21, at the elementary school in Wilton. First on the agenda is a guided walking tour of the downtown area, followed by a meeting with town and business leaders, then two public listening sessions. The team will listen to the people of Wilton and, taking that information, along with their own professional knowledge and information in recent economic development reports for the community, spend Saturday developing recommendations. Those will be presented on Saturday the 22nd at 3:00 for anyone interested.
