But, truth be told – since his father, who was a sign painter by trade, crafted it, he may not have had a choice. Where would you say your inspiration comes from?
" In so many ways, my inspiration comes from the family matriarch. My Grandmother – Cleo Spain. We called her 'The Colonel,' for the way she always said what she meant, meant what she said, and guided us to do the right thing at any cost. Sure, it helped that our company's very first home base was also her home basement. But even as we've grown, her memory continues to inspire. 'What would Grammy do?' continues to be my north star. "
When you think about the future of NH, what are you hoping to see?
" Just like we strive to retain the family-owned, locally-rooted character of our company – my hope is for NH to do the same. To maintain the distinct character that makes it special. When I look at Concord and beyond, I see businesses and nonprofits operated by people and families who care. My hope – and our hope as a company – is to see those seeds thrive in communities that continue to blossom alongside thriving local businesses that support them. "
Is there anything else we should know about your or your firm?
" In the last few years, JH Spain has been transitioning from Joe Spain to the JH Spain team. My brother Colin and I are committed to the future of the company. With a capable team of office and accounting managers, project managers and supervisors, our capacity has increased and has become a well-oiled machine. Our talented group is committed to the success of the company and to each other. The energy is so supportive and positive; we’ve built a culture of cooperation, process improvement, continued learning, and the celebration of success. Joe has always had the resources to do a great job for his clients and do quality work in the community. Now he is mentoring the next generation and bringing his experience and expertise to a committed group of professionals to do his bidding and carry on a legacy of integrity. "
