On October 29 and 30, Plan NH conducted design charrette #71, this time at the Castle in the Clouds property in Moultonborough.. Led by North Sturtevant, this was a traditional charrette, but instead of the target area being part of a town or neighborhood, the area included the historic Lucknow (Castle) Estate, with its grand home and spectacular views of Lake Winnipesaukee and the hills and miles beyond. The property, covering hundreds of acres, includes historic buildings, other buildings, carriage roads, hiking trails, open areas for events and more.
The team developed recommendations that could enhance the visitors; experiences, that could provide space for expanded programs, events and staff offices, as well as incorporate the arts, both visually and in programming. In addition, the team looked at traffic and pedestrian flow, accessibility, and integration of uses (eg, hiking and visiting the Castle.). “You went way beyond our expectations!” said a Board member afterward.
