Why did you join Plan NH?
" For many years I was a member of a global group that has a similar mission to that of Plan NH, but found their focus was becoming diluted and politicized. When I discovered Plan NH, I jumped at the opportunity to participate with more like minded people in generating measurable benefits for local communities. "
Where would you say your inspiration comes from?
" I was working as a cook in a restaurant outside Paris when I discovered the parks, boulevards, small gardens, and woodlands in and around that city, and I thought someone should make great places like those in the USA. I’ve been lucky to travel widely in far Eastern Europe, Scandinavia, Asia, and Western Europe, all the while noting paving details, fence types, planting arrangements, lighting fixtures, retaining walls and furnishings, proportions of all kinds. Also, my years in Northern New England have given a true sense of what makes our corner of the world unique and special. These all combine to inform my approach, usually at different scales and with different materials, but always working to capture the essential success of those original places, small and large, near and far. "
When you think about the future of NH, what are you hoping to see?
" New Hampshire holds many unique cultures, traditions, and locales that together form a rather self-sufficient and independent heritage. This is expressed through tight communities working to uphold their values and their principles, their shared knowledge, hard earned skills and innate abilities, and their legacy. These core elements make New Hampshire great, and I hope to see them gain more resilience and strength against corrosive influences threatening New Hampshire’s traditional ideals. I see Plan NH as a key part of strengthening New Hampshire’s legacy. "
Is there anything else we should know about you or your firm?
" Always eager to explore positive changes to built places with motivated and caring property owners, I’ve been lucky to work with great clients and allied consultants, and hope to continue for another 25 years! "
